Tattoo- not for my children

I admit I am not a liberated or “hip” mom and we have imposed upon our children the rule against permanent tattoo. I have nothing against those who have tattoos, it’s their choice and it’s their body afterall….It’s their form of expression.  So to each his own….

I am also fascinated with the art of tattooing because of how amazing the designs are and the artist creatively work long hours doing  masterpiece on a clients body which is more like a canvas.  Beautiful art work can be etched on the body and I’ve heard that the ink penetrates the second layer of skin which is the dermis so the result is permanent.  I wonder if that hurts…maybe one should have high threshold to pain.

Our ancestors  worn them as body adornment, and popular in most countries like Somalia, Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.  In our present times, more and more people especially the youths are getting tattoos on their body as a way to express themselves.  There are varying opinions about this so there are a lot of things to consider or to know before you roll up your sleeve and have one.

One time, a son of my cousin came home with a tattoo!  You bet,  he was berated without let up.   The young boy was marked for life..  I was somewhat worried, to think that my son always hang out with him, he too might give in to peer pressure.   He might be tempted to break the rules.   I hope he won’t.  As an alternative,  if they really want to have some sort of body designs – then they can try  henna tattoos.   It is  non permanent and will fade in time, about 2-4 weeks.  I will compromise with my children with henna tattooing than the permanent ones.

Well, if you want one… go ahead.. express yourselves….(but not for my children).  I may sound conservative but let me be….
