Haircut
Posted on May 26th, 2010 @ 8:40 am

My hair badly needs cutting and styling.   I would dare try a new cut but I am worried that it will not suit  the shape of my face.  That is why, I only go to my favorite salon for their services because they already know what is best for me. I once asked my hairstylist how to figure out f ace shapes and she told me there is actually a scientific way to do it.  She patiently explained to me the following:  To find out , use a tape measure or ruler and take the following measurements:

  • Measure your tape across the top of you cheekbones
  • Measure across your jaw line to the widest point
  • Measure from the tip of you jawline to the bottom of your chin.

Do it if you really wanted to know your face shape.  We have the oval face, round, square and long face but oval is the perfect shape.  You can experiment with new hairstyles but to be safe, stick to the ones that will suit your face shape.

Afterall, it is very true that the hair is our crowning glory.   Bad hair day really affects our moods especially us girls.   Hmmm. got to go.. for a haircut…

Promise
Posted on May 25th, 2010 @ 8:28 am

I once promised my niece Reign that I will arrange for a swimming in a nearby resort since it is known for its wave pool and she really wanted to go there again.  However, my schedule was very tight.. having left and right get together with my High School and Elementary batch mates.  I also stayed with my children in their c ondo dorm to make up with the lost time of my being away from them.  So, up to the last minute I was not able to squeeze a day to bring my niece to the wave pool resort.

I was told that she was crying when she learned I had gone back to Riyadh.  So sad!  But I hope that whenever we promised something especially to children, we have to make sure we can keep it.   Oh well,  promises are sometimes made to be broken…

Promise, next time… There I go again….

Our Children
Posted on May 23rd, 2010 @ 8:08 am

It is so hard to bid my children goodbye on the day that I have to fly back to Riyadh.  They will be on their own again and we believe that they are responsible enough to fend for themselves while we are far away from them.  We  trust them and forever hoping they will not let their lives and studies go wayward.

As long they will keep the faith, love each other coupled with right choice of friends.. they will never go wrong.

They are God’s gift to us… We are only stewards..

Love you Karlo, Kukay and Kevin!

Countdown

With my travel to Riyadh getting near, I took note of what I need to do:

  • secure my OEC (Overseas Employment Certificate)
  • e-mail my office mate to enter my data in the Public Relations arrival so there will be no hassle in the airport.  Making sure our hospital liaison officer will be there to pick me up on time
  • chat with my husband and give last minute instructions like bringing with him my abaya in the airport
  • buy few pairs of office shoes and formal blouses
  • text my friends that the  Despedida party 2 days before I will leave will go as planned
  • catch up the 1st day of showing of a local movie Hating Kapatid in Greenbelt, Makati
  • pick-up the t-shirts asked me to bring over to Riyadh
  • pack things and hope that I will not go beyond the 40 kls. baggage allowance
  • one to one meeting my children
  • check my bank account
  • appointment to my favorite salon
  • visiting the grave of my Daddy and offering my prayers
  • bidding farewell to friends and my loved one

Whew!  I was surprised to find out that I still have a lot of things to do.  Anyway, I enjoyed my vacation and that is all that matters!   I will start planning for my next vacation.  Ciao!

Bored

There were countless stories of  experiences when storm Basyang hit the country and I had my share.  At the height of the typhoon, strong winds knocked down power plants that resulted to nationwide black out. People are boiling mad due to the of inconveniences especially those without generators.  The  power supply was not restored immediately,   imagine, the nation was powerless for more than 24 hours!  No electricity, no water,  nothing.. boring!

The next day, our children still went to school for it is upon the school’s discretion to suspend classes.    Other schools sent home their students and staff who mostly trooped to the nearby shopping mall.  And I was one of them!  Since the mall is powered by generator, it became a haven for us to stand by.  I just wandered here and there, walked and shopped for anything that caught my fancy.. walked aimlessly till I got tired.  Then rest on benches alongside with other people whom I believe just waiting and wishing that the power will be restored soon so that we can all go back home.  Mind you, doing nothing is boring!  I almost got dizzy with countless images going back and forth right before me.  They too are wondering what to do and where to go.

Since it is by choice to stay there, I just amused myself reading over and over again a magazine I bought.  Even the tiniest details and articles, I did read.   And I got so engrossed with what I was doing that before I knew it, it was already past 6 pm.  Imagine, I stayed from 10 am till 6pm and surprisingly survived that ordeal.   Lo and behold, my  3 children came looking for me and what a relief for them to find me still in  my right senses.  Well, that time,  I can feel that I am  about to get crazy… lol..  We decided to come home after a hearty dinner and when news got around that electricity has been restored.  And storm Basyang that very same night, headed to China.  Bye!

And we slept soundly that night!  The aircon is just soothing and calming to our  tired bodies…

CCTV
Posted on May 13th, 2010 @ 10:53 pm

I was so disturbed when I saw the recorded video of  a recent fast food robbery.  It was clearly revealed in the CCTV (Close Circuit Television) camera installed  in that establishment.   The recording showed how those thieves coordinated and work as a team to steal the bag of a unsuspecting costumer.  I am glad that the campaign of our government to strictly impose the use of those cameras is working to advantage.  Now, most banks, businesses , government owned establishments and even private homes are  already using CCTV ‘s to discourage theft and to record criminal activity.  However, those lawless elements are getting bolder and bolder.

Their modus operandi is to work either in tandem or group.  Somebody will act as the spotter, look-out, blocker and the  main character.   These people resort to all kinds of tricks or gimmickry  to deceive us.  They are  investing in good clothes and are fashionable so that they will appear rich and affluent so they can get away with their  dirty works.  Nowadays,  we can’t be sure on whom to trust.   There are  numerous incidents of bag slashing/snatching, robberies, carnapping, hold-up, murder, rapes we heard of so better watch out!

Hope this will not happen to you and me!  Let this be a warning to all of us!

Swimsuit
Posted on May 9th, 2010 @ 2:09 pm

My friend invited us to the new condo unit of her son and we arranged for a pool party.  She texted us and posted private message that we need to wear suitable swimwear as per management’s regulation with regard to the use of their pool.   Now, I am having a dilemma on what to wear.  As far as I can remember, never did I wear bikini or bathing suit on outings on the beach or pool.  The conservative Filipino like me, a spandex cycling shorts and a tank top complete our swimming get up.   But yes, sometimes, you have to keep up with modern times.  My body type probably will best fit into a one piece with a balloon like skirt in nylon or spandex material to hide the tummy and the flaws.  Or if I will not swim, either I will be covering myself in a sarong; a tube length of fabric used as skirt or cover up for ladies.  That way, I can still be fashionable!

Good luck to me on next week’s swimming party.  If  finally I will decide to swim, then I need  to shop now for an appropriate  bathing suit and a sarong to match!

Massage
Posted on May 8th, 2010 @ 1:49 pm

During my younger years, mere mention of massage parlor gives a bad connotation but nowadays if you say massage or spa experience it will boost your image.  This spa thing may be a little expensive depends on the services they are offering.  You can choose from a selection of types of relaxing body massage   My husband and I already got hooked to having massage therapy whenever we can.   We believe that it relaxes and ease our tension away and make us feel better after a session.  We tried it in Hong Kong during our holiday visit and we availed of the promo services we chanced upon on our way to the hotel.   We were expecting their massage techniques are different from what we got used to in Manila and really it was something extra-ordinary or maybe it’s the Chinese way.  They are using their elbows to put pressure on my  muscles and for me, the more I can’t relax and my muscles seemed to tighten more because I am anticipating the pain everytime the elbow  is used.  The movement was so intense that I felt uncomfortable and caused soreness that last a couple of day.I think I did not get the desired relaxation and pain relief that I was hoping when I tried that massage and I told my husband that I will not try it the next time around.   What an experience!

For now, I will just stick to my favorite massage clinic in our town where I am already a regular customer – with free tea after each session, reasonably priced and discount coupon so you will come back for another session.  However,  I will also definitely try other massage clinics  based on other people’s recommendations.  We need pampering once in a while…

Tiring yet fun!
Posted on May 5th, 2010 @ 1:06 pm

I just got home from an out of town bonding time with my High School friends whom I haven’t seen after our graduation- it was 34 years ago.  Whoooo! I am already giving away my exact age!  Nope,  it’s not melodramatic meeting since we have  been alienated from each other for such a long time.  It’s now  more of a name recall since  we all aged differently and of course, the features are somehow different from before.  But then again, the get together was a happy one, reminiscing our High School days;  our crushes, dear teachers, classmates; activities and even the silly things we did as students.   It was really a day of laughter, teasing and revelations.

We all parted filled with memories and pictures to post in Facebook.  It was a tiring day – long walks, visiting spots left and right but tummy filled with frequent snacking and a heavy lunch.   We vowed to meet again sometime soon or even regularly!   Afterall, we should do it while we can still can.   That’s for sure!

Planning another bonding activity?  Why not!   We are only a text away !

Flowers too!
Posted on May 3rd, 2010 @ 9:31 am

For those who are green-thumbed, gardening is just an easy feat!  I envy them – who can take care of plants effortlessly. They can breathe life into their plants and you can not help but  marvel how healthy and blooming their flowers are.  Unlike me , in day or two, my plants will either get wilted or die at once.  So the best choice is to buy  synthetic ones and you will be sure that it will last for years.

On our visit to Tagaytay,  I was specially struck with their lush greeneries and beautiful flowering plants.  A very good sight to see- green and colorful flowers that will warm your heart and somehow you will feel romantic.  Besides Tagaytay, Baguio City is also the place where most local flowers and vegetables are coming from.  The soils are fertile so harvest is bountiful.

The air too is clean and cool.  A fitting place  to relax and unwind!  Leave all your worries away in Manila and indulge in a relaxing day in Tagaytay, almost 2 hours drive from the city of Manila.  But don’t forget your wallet dearie, if you want to have fun and the best relaxation ever…

After relaxing.. you will be back to the city to work again and earn and relax again… it’s a cycle!
